Altars to Sin - Hosea 8:11

In the book of Hosea, Hosea shared how Jehovah God said of Israel, “though they have hired among the nations, now will I gather them, and they shall sorrow a little for the burden of the king of princes”, and in chapter eight and verse eleven of Hosea, Hosea shared how Jehovah God said of Ephraim, altars shall be unto him to sin” where we read,

Because Ephraim has made many altars to sin, altars shall be unto him to sin.

The verse begins, Because Ephraim has made many altars to sin, ...” Hosea began with the words, “because Ephraim” or “since and on account that Ephraim whose name means double ash-heap or I shall be doubly fruitful and was the name sometimes used for the northern kingdom” “has made many altars” which means “has formed, fashioned and accomplished numerous, multiplied, increased and enlarged places of slaughter” “to sin” or “toward missing the mark, going wrong and making errors”. Hosea shared how Jehovah God said since “Ephraim” formed and fashioned numerous slaughtering places to make errors and go wrong the following would occur.

The verse goes on to say, ... altars shall be unto him to sin.” Hosea continued with the word, “altars” or “slaughtering places” “shall be unto him” which means “will exist for Ephraim” “to sin” or “toward missing the mark, going wrong and making errors”. Hosea shared how the slaughtering places formed and fashioned by the people of “Ephraim” would be used to carry out their errors and wrongs.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Hosea how the people within “Ephraim” fashioned “slaughtering places” for sinning, and they were destined to use them to commit errors and wrongs against Jehovah God. This is not the way God wanted it to be. God wants to be the priority in everyone's life, and because He loves us, He sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us a desire to worship Him and Him alone and never “sin” before “altars” that we have fashioned and made.

Next time Hosea shares how Jehovah God says, I have written to him the great things of my law, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
