In the book of Hosea, Hosea shared how Jehovah God said, “Israel has forgotten his Maker, and builds temples; and Judah has multiplied fenced cities: but I will send a fire upon his cities, and it shall devour the palaces thereof”, and in chapter nine and verse one of Hosea, Hosea said, “Rejoice not, O Israel, for joy, as other people” where we read,
Rejoice not, O Israel, for joy, as other people:
for you have gone a whoring from your God, you have loved a reward upon every corn-floor.
The verse begins, “Rejoice not, O Israel, for joy, as other people:” Hosea began with the words, “rejoice not” or “do not exult, cheer up or be glad”, “O Israel” whose name means “God prevails and is the name for the descendants and nation of the descendants of Jacob”, “for joy” or “on behalf of exceedingly great rejoicing”, “as other people” which means “similar and in likeness to other nations, compatriots, kinsmen, kindred and country-men”. Hosea instructed the people of “Israel” not to cheer up and be glad in a way that was like other nations and compatriots.
The verse continues, “for you have gone a whoring from your God, you have loved a reward upon every corn-floor.”Hosea added the words, “for you have gone a whoring” or “because, since and on account that you, Israel, have committed fornication and acted as a harlot or prostitute” “from your God” which means “separate and apart from your, Israel's, Supreme Deity and True God”, “you have loved a reward” or “you, Israel, have had an affection for hire, a gift or a price” “upon every corn-floor” which means “on each, the whole, all and everyone of the open areas or threshing floors”. Hosea shared how the people of “Israel” separated themselves from their True God Jehovah by committing spiritual adultery while having a great affection for gifts on each of their threshing floors.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how Hosea instructed the people of “Israel” not to be cheerful and joyous like other nations because were affectionate for gifts and presents on their threshing floors which caused them to committed spiritual adultery against Jehovah God. This behavior gave no reason to be glad, and those who follow this course of life should not be happy. God wants us to worship Him and Him alone, and only Jehovah God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us a passion for Him that will never allow us to have affection for gifts and presents that cause us to commit spiritual adultery against Him.
Next time Hosea says, “the floor and the winepress shall not feed them”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
