God Gave a King in Anger - Hosea 13:11

In the book of Hosea, Hosea shared how Jehovah God said, “I will be your king: where is any other that may save you in all your cities? and your judges of whom you said, Give me a king and princes?”, and in chapter thirteen and verse eleven of Hosea, Hosea shared how Jehovah God said, “I gave you a king in my anger” where we read,

I gave you a king in my anger, and took him away in my wrath.

The verse begins, I gave you a king in my anger, ...” Hosea began with the words, “I gave you a king” or “I, Jehovah God, granted, bestowed, permitted, ascribed and consecrated a royal ruler and leader to you, Israel” “in my anger” which means “within my, Jehovah God's, wrath and rage that wrinkles the nostrils and nose”. (See 1 Samuel 8:7-9) Hosea shared how Jehovah God said He provided a royal ruler to “Israel” in His wrath and rage.

The verse goes on to say, “... and took him away in my wrath. Hosea continue with the words, “and took him away” or “and fetched, seized and snatched him, the king of Israel, separate and apart” “in my wrath” which means “within my, Jehovah God's, outpouring, overflow, excess, fury and overflowing rage”. Hosea shared how Jehovah God removed the “king of Israel” in His fury and overflowing rage. (See 1 Samuel 15:23)

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Hosea how Jehovah God provided “Israel” with a king, Saul, but He did so in “anger” because they desired a human ruler rather than Him. However when their king violated his relationship with God, God removed him in His fury. God wants to rule in our lives, and no one else should hold that place. Only Jehovah God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us a desire to have Him, and Him alone, to rule and reign in our lives for all eternity.

Next time Hosea shares how Jehovah God says, “the iniquity of Ephraim is bound up, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
