In the book of Hosea, Hosea shared how Jehovah God said of Ephraim, “they shall be as the morning cloud, and as the early dew that passes away, as the chaff that is driven with the whirlwind out of the floor, and as the smoke out of the chimney”, and in chapter thirteen and verse four of Hosea, Hosea shared how Jehovah God said, “I am the LORD your God from the land of Egypt” where we read,
Yet I am the LORD your God from the land of Egypt, and you shall know no god but me:
for there is no savior beside me.
The verse begins, “Yet I am the LORD your God from the land of Egypt, and you shall know no god but me:” Hosea began with the words, “yet I am the LORD” or “still I, Jehovah God, exist as Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “your God” which means “your, Ephraim's, Supreme Deity and True God” “from the land of Egypt” or “separate and apart from the territory, district, region and country of Egypt whose name means land of the Copts and is a country at the northeastern section of Africa, adjacent to Palestine, and through which the Nile flows”,“and you shall know no god” which means “and you, Ephraim, will not learn, perceive, find out, discriminate, distinguish or discern any other deity” “but me” or “except for me, Jehovah God”. Hosea shared how Jehovah God declared Himself to be the Supreme Deity of the people of Ephraim, and they were to worship no other “deity” than Him.
The verse continues, “for there is no savior beside me.” Hosea added the words, “for there is no savior” or “because, since and on account that there exists not any other deliverer, rescuer or one who gives victory” “beside me” which means “except for me, Jehovah God”. Hosea shared how Jehovah God said the people of “Ephraim” were to have no other “god” than Him because no one else could deliver and rescue them.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Hosea how Jehovah God declared Himself to be the only “Supreme Deity” who was able to deliver “Ephraim or Israel” from the oppression they encountered in “Egypt”, and no other “god” could “save” them. The same is true today. No other god or object of worship sent their Only Begotten Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of the whole world. No other object or way of worship is able to forgive sins, provide everlasting life and give the ability to live forever with Jehovah God. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life, and no man comes to the Father, but by me.” (See John 14:6) Paul the apostle speaking of Jesus wrote, “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (See Acts 4:12), and Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane said, “O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me:nevertheless not as I will, but as you will.” (See Matthew 26:29) Believing and trusting in Jesus as our “Savior and Lord” is the only way to eternal life with God, and those who are wise will carefully consider the words of Jehovah God, Jesus and Paul and surrender their lives to the only One who can save. .
Next time Hosea shares how Jehovah God says, “I did know you in the wilderness”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
