In the book of Hosea, Hosea said of Israel, “they shall not offer wine offerings to the LORD, neither shall they be pleasing unto him: their sacrifices shall be unto them as the bread of mourners; all that eat thereof shall be polluted: for their bread for their soul shall not come into the house of the LORD”, and in chapter nine and verse five of Hosea, Hosea asked, “what will you do in the solemn day?” where we read,
What will you do in the solemn day, and in the day of the feast of the LORD?
The verse begins, “What will you do in the solemn day, ...” Hosea began with the words, “what will you do or “wherewith and wherein will you, the people of Israel, fashion, make, accomplish and produce” “in the solemn day” which means “within the sacred, appointed and set division and period of time”. Hosea asked what the people of Israel would accomplish in the sacred period of time.
The verse continues, “... and in the day of the feast of the LORD?” Hosea added the words, “and in the day” or “and within the division and period of time” “of the feast” which means “pertaining to the festival-gathering and sacrifice” “of the LORD” or “belonging to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for One True God”. Hosea continued by questioning what the people of Israel would accomplish in the festival-gathering time for sacrifices.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how Hosea questioned what the people in the nation of Israel would accomplish in the sacred period of time and the season when festivals for sacrificial gatherings arrived. Because the people of Israel abandoned their relationship with God, they not only would be sent back to “Egypt”, but they would no longer have the supplies, the location or the ability to continue in their sacrificial offerings of worship. God didn't want this for them, and in the same manner, He offers us the opportunity to be in a personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins. When we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us provision for offering our sacrifices of praise and honor to Him as we gather together with other believers. Otherwise, we shall have nothing to offer Him when the eternal “solemn and feasting day” arrives.
Next time Hosea says of Israel, “they are gone because of destruction”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
