In the book of Hosea, Hosea shared how Jehovah God said, “the iniquity of Ephraim is bound up; his sin is hid”, and in chapter thirteen and verse thirteen of Hosea, Hosea shared how Jehovah God said, “the sorrows of a travailing woman shall come upon him” where we read,
The sorrows of a travailing woman shall come upon him: he is an unwise son;
for he should not stay long in the place of the breaking forth of children.
The verse begins, “The sorrows of a travailing woman shall come upon him: he is an unwise son;” Hosea began with the words, “the sorrows” or “the pains and labor” “of a travailing woman” which means “belonging to a female human being who is birthing, engendering or begetting a child” “shall come upon him” or “will enter and light on, Ephraim”: “he is an unwise son” which means “he, Ephraim, exists as male offspring and progeny who is not skilled, cunning, crafty or learned”. Hosea shared how the pain and labor of a woman birthing a child would light upon “Ephraim”because they were not skilled, cunning or learned.
The verse goes on to say, “for he should not stay long in the place of the breaking forth of children.” Hosea continued with the words, “for he should not stay long” or “because, since and on account that he, Ephraim, in no way is to remain, continue, abide and endure” “in the place” which means “within the location” “of the breaking forth” or “pertaining to the opening of the womb” “of children” which means “pertaining to young ones”. Hosea shared how “Ephraim” should not have lingered and continued within the birthing canal of pain.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Hosea how “Ephraim” was to continue in their suffering because they remained in their sinful state and kept it hidden. God knew the trespasses of “Ephraim”, and He knows our sins as well. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind because He wants to have a personal relationship with us. When we humble ourselves, repent of our sins and yield to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us a desire to abandon sinful ways and not to linger in that which is bound to give us great pain.
Next time Hosea shares how Jehovah God says, “I will ransom them from the power of the grave”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
