Not Returning to the Land of Egypt - Hosea 11:5

In the book of Hosea, Hosea shared how Jehovah God said, “I taught Ephraim also to go, taking them by their arms; but they knew not that I healed them. I drew them with cords of a man, with bands of love: and I was to them as they that take off the yoke on their jaws, and I laid meat unto them”, and in chapter eleven and verse five of Hosea, Hosea shared how Jehovah God said“he shall not return into the land of Egypt”” where we read,

He shall not return into the land of Egypt,

but the Assyrian shall be his king, because they refused to return.

The verse begins, He shall not return into the land of Egypt, ...” Hosea began with the words, “he shall not return” or “he, Ephraim, will in no way or manner go back” “into the land” which means “into the region, country, territory and district” “of Egypt” or “belonging to Egypt whose name means land of the Copts and is a country at the northeastern section of Africa, adjacent to Palestine, and through which the Nile flows”. Hosea shared how Jehovah God said “Ephraim” would not go back to the country of “Egypt”.

The verse goes on to say, “... but the Assyrian shall be his king, because they refused to return. Hosea continued with the words, “but the Assyrian” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover the people whose name means a step” “shall be his king” which means “will exist as his, Ephraim's, royal ruler and leader”, “because they refused” or “since and on account that they, the people of Ephraim, repudiated, spurned and declined” “to return” which means “to go back to Jehovah God”. Hosea shared how Jehovah God said the royal leader in “Assyria” would be the people of “Israel's” ruler on account that they declined to go back to Him.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Hosea how Jehovah God desired to have a personal relationship with the people of “Ephraim”, however, they declined His offer and they were to be ruled by the “king” of “Assyria” instead. Many people are like this today as they “refuse” to follow God through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for their sins and will forgive them and provide them with everlasting life when they believe and trust in Him. God loves people, and when we surrender our lives and “return” to Him, He will give us His Holy Spirit who shall lead and guide us into His eternal truth and an eternal life with Him.

Next time Hosea shares how Jehovah God says, “the sword shall abide on his cities”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
