In the book of Hosea, Hosea shared how Jehovah God said, “when Israel was a child, then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt”, and in chapter eleven and verse two of Hosea, Hosea shared how Jehovah God said, “as they called them, so they went from them” where we read,
As they called them, so they went from them:
they sacrificed unto Baalim, and burned incense to graven images.
The verse begins, “As they called them, so they went from them:” Hosea began with the words, “as they called them” or “even and indeed during the time Jehovah God cried out to the nation of Israel”, “so they went” which means “even and indeed they, the people of Israel, left and departed” “from them” or “separate and apart from them, Egypt”. Hosea shared at the time Jehovah God cried out for the people of Israel to leave “Egypt”, they did.
The verse continues, “they sacrificed unto Baalim, and burned incense to graven images.” Hosea added the words, “they sacrificed” or “they, the people of Israel, killed and offered slaughter” “unto Baalim” which means “to Baalim whose name means lord and was the supreme male divinity of the Phoenicians or Canaanites”, “and burned incense” or “and sacrificed smoking fragrances” “to graven images” which means “toward carved images and idols”. Hosea shared how the people in the nation of Israel offered slaughters of worship to “Baalim”, and they offered smoking fragrances to idols which they had formed and fashioned.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Hosea how Jehovah God cried out for His people of Israel from the land of “Egypt”, however, after they left “Egypt”, they began to offer “sacrifices” and smoking fragrances to “Baalim” instead of Jehovah God. God loved and continues to love Israel, and He desires to have a personal relationship with them through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. We also are invited to believe and trust in Jesus, and when we yield to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life put within us a passion for Him alone and not any other god or image formed or fashioned.
