In the book of Hosea, Hosea said, “Set the trumpet to your mouth. He shall come as an eagle against the house of the LORD, because they have transgressed my covenant, and trespassed against my law. Israel shall cry unto me, My God, we know you”, and in chapter eight and verse three of Hosea, Hosea shared how Jehovah God said, “Israel has cast off the thing that is good” where we read,
Israel has cast off the thing that is good: the enemy shall pursue him.
The verse begins, “Israel has cast off the thing that is good:” Hosea began with the words, “Israel has cast off” or “Israel, whose name means God prevails and is the name of the descendants and the nation of the descendants of Jacob, has rejected and spurned” “the thing that is good” which means “that which is pleasant, agreeable, excellent, appropriate, becoming and prosperous”. Hosea shared how the nation of “Israel” rejected that which is excellent, pleasant and prosperous.
The verse goes on to say, “the enemy shall pursue him.” Hosea continued with the words, “the enemy” or “the hating adversary and foe” “shall pursue him” which means “will follow after, persecute, run after and put him, the nation of Israel, to flight”. Hosea shared how a hating foe and adversary would run after “Israel” and put them to flight.
When we meditate upon Hosea's words in this verse, we learn how the nation of Israel rejected and refused the pleasant, agreeable and excellent way Jehovah God planned for them, and therefore, their hating foe would run after them and put them to flight. God knows when we refuse and reject His way of salvation through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins, we subject ourselves to the most threatening and hating foe of all, Satan. Satan hates us, and because God loves us, He wants us to yield to Jesus to have our sins forgiven, be granted everlasting life and receive His protection against all hating foes including Satan who will pursue us when we reject and refuse God's offer.
Next time Hosea shares how Jehovah God says, “they have set up kings, but not by me”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
