The Iniquity of Ephraim is Bound Up - Hosea 13:12

In the book of Hosea, Hosea shared how Jehovah God said to Israel, “I gave you a king in my anger, and took him away in my wrath”, and in chapter thirteen and verse twelve of Hosea, Hosea shared how Jehovah God said, “the iniquity of Ephraim is bound up” where we read,

The iniquity of Ephraim is bound up; his sin is hid.

The verse begins, The iniquity of Ephraim is bound up;” Hosea began with the words, “the iniquity of Ephraim” or “the perversity, depravity, guilt and consequence of punishment belonging to Ephraim whose name means double ash-heap or I shall be doubly fruitful and was the name sometimes used for the northern kingdom” “is bound up” which means “exists as narrow, in distress, besieged, cramped and in straits”. Hosea shared how the perversity and depravity of “Ephraim”was narrow and in distress.

The verse continues, “his sin is hid. Hosea added the words, “his sin” or “his, Ephraim's, penalty, sacrifice and expiation” “is hid” which means “exists as stored up, hoarded and kept private”. Hosea shared how the “sin” of “Ephraim” was stored up for punishment.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Hosea how the errors and wrongs of “Ephraim” were stored up, and the punishment for those “sins” was being kept on record. God knows the trespasses and sins of every person, and because sin separates people from a personal relationship with Him and leads to death, He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and cleanse us so we have nothing in our lives that is stored up for punishment.

Next time Hosea shares how Jehovah God says, “the sorrows of a travailing woman shall come upon him, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
