Woe to the Fleers - Hosea 7:13

In the book of Hosea, Hosea shared how Jehovah God said, “Ephraim also is like a silly dove without heart: they call to Egypt, they go to Assyria. When they shall go, I will spread my net upon them; I will bring them down as the fowls of the heaven; I will chastise them, as their congregation has heard”, and in chapter seven and verse thirteen of Hosea, Hosea shared how Jehovah God said, Woe unto them! For they have fled from me where we read,

Woe unto them! for they have fled from me: destruction unto them!

because they have transgressed against me: though I have redeemed them, yet they have spoken lies against me.

The verse begins, Woe unto them! for they have fled from me: destruction unto them!” Hosea began with the words, “woe unto them” or “Alas! Oh! to the people of Ephraim”! “for they have fled from me” which means “because, since and on account that they, the people of Ephraim, departed, moved, wandered and strayed separate and apart from me, Jehovah God”: “destruction unto them” or “havoc, violence, devastation and ruin to them, the people of Ephraim”. Hosea shared how God called out “Woe” upon the people of “Ephraim” because they departed from Him, and therefore violence and ruin was to come upon them.

The verse goes on to say, because they have transgressed against me: though I have redeemed them, yet they have spoken lies against me. Hosea continued with the words, “because they have transgressed” or “since and on account that they, the people of Ephraim, rebelled, revolted and quarreled” “against me” which means “in opposition to me, Jehovah God”: “though I have redeemed them” or “even though I, Jehovah God, ransomed, rescued and delivered them, the people of Ephraim”, “yet they have spoken lies” which means “still these same people of Ephraim have uttered, declared and proclaimed falsehoods, untruths and deceptions” “against me” or “in opposition to me, Jehovah God”. Hosea shared how God knew the people of Ephraim rebelled and revolted in opposition to him, and even through He rescued and delivered them, they continued to utter falsehoods and untruths about Him.

When we meditate upon Hosea's words in this verse, we learn how Jehovah God knew the damage that would come upon the people of Ephraim because they departed from Him. They rebelled, revolted and uttered falsehoods about God even after He delivered and saved them. God loved the people of Ephraim, and even after they opposed Him and His ways, He continued to care for them and wanted to keep them from destruction. God loves us, and He will allow us to go through difficulties and troubles if they will turn us to Him. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of everyone, and when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us a willingness to draw close to Him and never be as those who oppose Him in their speeches, acts and deeds.

Next time Hosea shares how Jehovah God says, they have not cried unto me with their heart, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
