Bethel Shall Do Unto You - Hosea 10:15

In the book of Hosea, Hosea said to Israel, “You have plowed wickedness, you have reaped iniquity; you have eaten the fruit of lies: because you did trust in your way, in the multitude of your mighty men. Therefore shall a tumult arise among your people, and all your fortresses shall be spoiled, as Shalman spoiled Betharbel in the day of battle: the mother was dashed in pieces upon her children”, and in chapter ten and verse fifteen of Hosea, Hosea said“so shall Bethel do unto you” where we read,

So shall Bethel do unto you because of your great wickedness:

in a morning shall the king of Israel utterly be cut off.

The verse begins, So shall Bethel do unto you because of your great wickedness:” Hosea began with the words, “so shall Bethel” or “even, also and indeed will Bethel whose name means house of God and was a place in the south country of Judah, not far from Beersheba and Ziklag” “do unto you” which means “fashion, accomplish and produce toward you, Israel” “because of your great wickedness” or “since and on account of your, Israel's, bad, disagreeableness, malignancy, evil and unpleasantness”. Hosea said “Bethel” would bring destruction upon the nation of Israel on account of their massive evil and malignancy.

The verse continues, “in a morning shall the king of Israel utterly be cut off. Hosea added the words, “in a morning” or “at the break of a day or dawn” “shall the king of Israel” which means “will the royal leader and ruler belonging to Israel whose name means God prevails and is the name of the descendants and the nation of descendants of Jacob” “utterly be cut off” or “be caused and made to be destroyed, perished and undone”. Hosea said at the break of a day or dawn the royal ruler of “Israel” would be totally destroyed.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how Hosea knew that “Bethel” would be used by Jehovah God to bring judgment upon the nation of Israel for their malignancy and evil, and at the dawn of a day the royal ruler of Israel would be totally destroyed. God wanted to have an intimate relationship with the nation of Israel, but they refused. He wanted them to trust in Him alone for their provision and protection, but they began to follow other gods. God wants to have a personal relationship with us, and He provided His Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of everyone. When we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and keep us separated from the apostasy of the nation of Israel so no one brings judgment upon us like Bethel did to Israel.

Next time we begin a new chapter and see Hosea share how Jehovah God says, “when Israel was a child, then I loved him”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
