In the book of Ezra, Ezra shared about “the children of the province that went up out of the captivity” which included those who came with “Zerubabbel, Parosh, Shephatiah and Arah, Pahathmoab, of the children of Jeshua, Joab, Elam, Zattu, Zaccai, Bebai and Azgad”,and in chapter two and verse thirteen of Ezra, Ezra shared about “the children of Adonikam” where we read,
The children of Adonikam, six hundred sixty and six.
The verse reads, “The children of Adonikam ...” Ezra began with the words, “the children” which means “the offspring and progeny” “of Adonikam” which means “belonging to Adonikam whose name means my lord arose and was the head of an Israelite clan who returned from exile” . Ezra shared about the offspring of “Adonikam” who also returned with Zerubabbel to Jerusalem.
The verse continues, “... six hundred sixty and six.” Ezra added the words, “six hundred and sixty and six” or “six hundred and sixty six offspring of Adonikam”. Ezra said there were six hundred and sixty six “children” who were descendants of “Adonikam” who went back to their homeland.
When we consider the words in this verse, we discover through Ezra about another family who returned to Jerusalem with Zerubabbel. This offspring of “Adonikam” numbered at “six hundred and sixty six”. Each family who returned to their homeland were known by Jehovah God, and He commissioned them to go back to Jerusalem to rebuild their temple. God's desire is for all people to follow His direction, and because He loves everybody, He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us the value of every person before His eyes.
