In the book of Ezra, Ezra shared about “the children of the province that went up out of the captivity” which included those who came with “Zerubabbel, Parosh, Shephatiah and Arah, Pahathmoab, of the children of Jeshua and Joab, and the children of Elam, Zattu, Zacca and Bani”,and in chapter two and verse eleven of Ezra, Ezra shared about “the children of Bebai” where we read,
The children of Bebai, six hundred twenty and three.
The verse reads, “The children of Bebai ...” Ezra began with the words, “the children” which means “the offspring and progeny” “of Bebai” which means “belonging to Bebai whose name means my cavities and was a leader of the returning exiles”. Ezra shared about the offspring of “Bebai” who returned to Jerusalem.
The verse goes on to say, “... six hundred twenty and three” Ezra continued with the words, “six hundred twenty and three” or “six hundred and twenty three members of the family of Bebai who returned with Zerubbabel”. Ezra shared how there were “six hundred and twenty three” people in the family of “Bebai” who returned to Jerusalem and Judah.
When we think through Ezra's words in this verse, we discover another family who returned to Jerusalem with Zerubabbel at the commission and directive Jehovah God through Cyrus the king of Persia. “Bebai” was the ancestor of this group of progenies who went back to their home, and even through we do not know much about Him, we know that Jehovah God knew his children and called them back to their home. God loves people, and when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, He made the way for everyone who believes in Him to be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life. God is calling, and all who hear Him should receive His Son Jesus into their lives and allow Him to lead them wherever He desires.
