Children Multiplied - Nehemiah 9:23

In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah shared how the Levites said Jehovah God cared for the people of Israel by delivering them from Egypt, and they said of Jehovah God, you gave them kingdoms and nations, and did divide them into corners: so they possessed the land of Sihon, and the land of the king of Heshbon, and the land of Og king of Bashan”, and in chapter nine and verse twenty-three of Nehemiah, Nehemiah shared how the Levites said of Jehovah God, “their children also multiplied you as the stars of heaven” where we read,

Their children also multiplied you as the stars of heaven, and brought them into the land,

concerning which you had promised to their fathers, that they should go in to possess it.

The verse reads, Their children also multiplied you as the stars of heaven, and brought them into the land, ...” Nehemiah began with the words, their children which means “their, the people of Israel's, offspring and progeny” “also multiplied you” or “even so and indeed you, Jehovah God, enlarged, made many and increased” “as the stars of heaven” which means “similar and in likeness to the stars in the visible sky and atmosphere”, “and brought them” or “and carried and lead them, the people of Israel” “into the land” which means “into the district, region and territory”. Nehemiah shared how the Levites referred to the way Jehovah God caused the people of Israel to have so many offspring that they were similar to the “stars” in the visible sky, and He lead them into the territory and region which was according to the following.

The verse continues, “... concerning which you had promised to their fathers, that they should go in to possess it.” Nehemiah added the words, “concerning which you” or “about that you, Jehovah God” “had promised” which means “avowed and took an oath” “to their fathers” or “to the male progenitors and ancestors of the people of Israel”, “that they should go in” which means “that they, the people of Israel, were to enter into the land” “to possess it” or “to seize, take possession of, occupy and inherit it, the land”. Nehemiah shared how the Levites recalled that Jehovah God avowed to the male progenitors of Israel that they would enter into the territories and regions to take possession of them.

When we meditate upon Nehemiah's words in this verse, we discover how the Levites noted that Jehovah God kept His “vow” to the male progenitors of Israel by granting to them the “promised land”. They entered the territories and took possession of them, and once again God demonstrated His love and care for the people of Israel. God loves people, and His desire is to have a personal relationship with all of us through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins and was raised from the grave three days later. When we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His “riches in glory” both in this life and in the life to come. (See Philippians 4:19)

Next time Nehemiah shares how the Levites said, “the children went in and possessed the land”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
