Zaccur, Sherebiah and Shebaniah - Nehemiah 10:12

In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah speaking of the “sealing” of the “sure covenant” the people of Israel made with Jehovah God said, “Now those that sealed were, Nehemiah, the Tirshatha” and others including, “the priests, and the Levites, and their brethren, Shebaniah, Hodijah, Kelita, Pelaiah, Hanan, Micha, Rehob, Hashabiah ...”, and in chapter ten and verse twelve of Nehemiah, Nehemiah named, “Zaccur, Sherebiah and Shebaniah” where we read,

Zaccur, Sherebiah, Shebaniah

The verse reads, “Zaccur, Sherebiah, Shebaniah” Nehemiah began with the word, “Zaccur” whose name means “mindful”, “Sherebiah” or “Jehovah has scorched”, “Shebaniah” whose name means “increased by Jehovah”. Nehemiah shared how fellow “Levites” named “Zaccur, Sherebiah, Shebaniah” were included among the men of Israel who signed the “sure covenant” with Jehovah God. 

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Nehemiah how “ Zaccur, Sherebiah and Shebaniah” were among the men of Israel who signed the “sure covenant” with Jehovah God. These men whose names mean “mindful, Jehovah has scorched and increased by Jehovah” were among the people of Israel who committed to following and obeying Jehovah God. God wants us all to yield to Him through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was raised from the grave three days later. When we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and account for us in His “book of life” to live with Him for all eternity. (Revelation 21:27)
