Hoshea, Hananiah and Hashub - Nehemiah 10:23

In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah speaking of the “sealing” of the “sure covenant” the people of Israel made with Jehovah God said, Now those that sealed were, Nehemiah, the Tirshatha” and others including, “the priests, and the Levites, and their brethren” which included among others, “Meshezabeel, Zadok, Jaddua, Pelatiah, Hanan and Anaiah”, and in chapter ten and verse twenty-three of Nehemiah, Nehemiah named, “Hoshea, Hananiah and Hashub ...” where we read,

Hoshea, Hananiah, Hashub

The verse reads, Hoshea, Hananiah, Hashub ... Nehemiah began with the word, Hoshea or Hosea or Oshea whose name means “salvation”, “Hananiah” or “God has favored”, “Hashub” whose name means “considerate”. Nehemiah shared how “Hoshea, Hananiah and Hashub” were also among the fellow Levites who “sealed” the “sure covenant”with Jehovah God.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Nehemiah about another three men of Israel who were “fellow Levites” that signed the agreement with Jehovah God. Once again their names relate to the nature and character of Jehovah God. God offers “salvation” to everyone who surrenders to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and because “God has favored” them, He raised Jesus from the dead after three days which will grant us everlasting life. God is “considerate” of us, and we need Him, and when we yield to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins and allow us to live with Him in Heaven for all eternity.

Next time Nehemiah names, “Hallohesh, Pileha and Shobek ...”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
