In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah speaking of the “sealing” of the “sure covenant” the people of Israel made with Jehovah God said, “Now those that sealed were, Nehemiah, the Tirshatha, the son of Hachaliah, and Zidkijah, Seraiah, Azariah, Jeremiah, Pashur, Amariah, Malchijah, Hattush, Shebaniah, Malluch, Harim, Meremoth, Obadiah, Daniel, Ginnethon and Baruch ...”, and in chapter ten and verse seven of Nehemiah, Nehemiah named, “Meshullam, Abijah and Mijamin” where we read,
Meshullam, Abijah, Mijamin ...
The verse reads, “ Meshullam, Abijah, Mijamin ...” Nehemiah began with the word, “Meshulam” whose name means “friend”, “Abijah” or “Jehovah is my father”, “Mijamin” whose name means “from the right hand”. Nehemiah shared how the men of Israel whose names mean, “friend, Jehovah is my father and from the right hand” also signed the “sure covenant” with Jehovah God.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Nehemiah that “Meshullam, Abijah and Mijamin” were added to the list of the men of Israel who “sealed” the “sure covenant” with Jehovah God. God loves commitment, and even though we sometimes fail to keep our part of the agreement, He is the strength of any treaty or “covenant” we make with Him. God loves us, and when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified on the cross and raised from the dead three days later, He made the way for us to be forgiven of our sins, granted everlasting life and listed among those with whom He has made a covenant unto the eternal ages to come. All we need to do is believe. (See John 17:3)
Next time Nehemiah says, “Maaziah, Bilgai, Shemaiah: these were the priests”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
