In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah speaking of the “sealing” of the “sure covenant” the people of Israel made with Jehovah God said, “Now those that sealed were, Nehemiah, the Tirshatha” and others including, “the priests, and the Levites, and their brethren” which included, “Hodijah, Hashum, Bezai, Hariph, Anathoth and Nebai”, and in chapter ten and verse twenty of Nehemiah, Nehemiah named, “Magpiash, Meshullam and Hezir ...” where we read,
Magpiash, Meshullam, Hezir
The verse reads, “Magpiash, Meshullam, Hezir” Nehemiah began with the word, “Magpiash” whose name means “moth-killer”, “Meshullam” or “friend”, “Hezir” whose name means “swine”. Nehemiah shared how the fellow “Levites” named, “Magpiash, Meshullam and Hezir” were among the men of Israel who signed the “sure covenant” with Jehovah God.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Nehemiah about another three men who were “fellow Levites” that “sealed” the covenant agreement with God. Their names meant, “moth-killer, friend and swine”, but they nonetheless signed their names to be committed to keep God's laws and ways. God wants us, regardless of our names or the meaning of them, to be in a personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of the world and was resurrected from the grave three days later. When we surrender to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His “name” for all eternity. (See Revelation 3:12)
Next time Nehemiah names, “Meshezabeel, Zadok and Jaddua ...”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
