The Levites - Nehemiah 10:9

In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah speaking of the “sealing” of the “sure covenant” the people of Israel made with Jehovah God said, Now those that sealed were, Nehemiah, the Tirshatha, the son of Hachaliah, and Zidkijah, Seraiah, Azariah, Jeremiah, Pashur, Amariah, Malchijah, Hattush, Shebaniah, Malluch, Harim, Meremoth, Obadiah, Daniel, Ginnethon, Baruch, Meshullam, Abijah, Mijamin, Maaziah, Bilgai, Shemaiah: these were the priests”, and in chapter ten and verse nine of Nehemiah, Nehemiah named, “the Levites” where we read,

And the Levites: both Jeshua the son of Azaniah, Binnui of the sons of Henadad, Kadmiel;

The verse reads, And the Levites:” Nehemiah began with the words, “and the Levites” which means “and the descendants of Levi whose name means joined to and were specially set aside by God for His service”. Nehemiah shared how the “Levites” were also among the men of Israel who signed the “sure covenant” with Jehovah God.

The verse goes on to say, “both Jeshua the son of Azaniah, Binnui of the sons of Henadad, Kadmiel;” Nehemiah continued with the words, “both Jeshua” which means “even Jeshua whose name means ” “the son of Azaniah” or “Jehovah or Yahweh hears”, “Binnui” which means “built up” “of the sons of Henadad” or “pertaining to the offspring and progeny belonging to Henadad whose name means favor of Hadad”, “Kadmiel” which means “God is the ancient”. Nehemiah shared how “Jeshua, Binnui and Kadmiel” also “sealed” the agreement with Jehovah God.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Nehemiah how there were “Levites” named “Jeshua, Binnui and Kadmiel” who were among the people of Israel who documented the “sure covenant” with Jehovah God. God wants people from all walks of life to have a personal relationship with Him, and when we yield to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was raised from the dead three days later, we shall be forgiven of our sins, granted everlasting life and given the opportunity to be in “covenant” with Him for all eternity.

Next time Nehemiah mentions, “their brethren”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
