In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah speaking of the “sealing” of the “sure covenant” the people of Israel made with Jehovah God said, “Now those that sealed were, Nehemiah, the Tirshatha” and others including, “the priests, and the Levites, and their brethren, Shebaniah, Hodijah, Kelita, Pelaiah, Hanan, Micha, Rehob, Hashabiah, Zaccur, Sherebiah, Shebaniah, Hodijah, Bani, Beninu. The chief of the people; Parosh, Pahathmoab, Elam, Zatthu and Bani, ...”, and in chapter ten and verse fifteen of Nehemiah, Nehemiah named, “Bunni, Azgad and Bebai” where we read,
Bunni, Azgad, Bebai
The verse reads, “Bunni, Azgad, Bebai” Nehemiah began with the word, “Bunni” whose name means “built”, “Azgad”or “Gad is mighty”, “Bebai” whose name means “my cavities”. Nehemiah shared how “Bunni, Azgad and Bebai” were added to the list of men of Israel who “sealed” the “sure covenant” with Jehovah God.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we discover through Nehemiah another three men who were among the “chief of the people” of Israel who signed the agreement with Jehovah God. These men were committing to align with God and His laws, and God wants us to be in covenant with Him like this as well. When He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins and to be raised from the dead three days later, He revealed His covenant relationship with us that depends upon Him and His commitment to us. When we yield to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and be with us for all eternity.
