In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah shared how the Levites said Jehovah God cared for the people of Israel by delivering them from Egypt, and they said of Jehovah God, “you in your manifold mercies forsook them not in the wilderness: the pillar of the cloud departed not from them by day, to lead them in the way; neither the pillar of fire by night, to show them light, and the way wherein they should go”, and in chapter nine and verse twenty of Nehemiah, Nehemiah shared how the Levites said of Jehovah God, “you gave also your good spirit to instruct them” where we read,
You gave also your good spirit to instruct them,
and withheld not your manna from their mouth, and gave them water for their thirst.
The verse reads, “You gave also your good spirit to instruct them, ...” Nehemiah began with the words, “you gave also”which means “you, Jehovah God, granted, bestowed, ascribed and dedicated even so and indeed” “your good spirit” or “your, Jehovah God's, pleasant, agreeable and valuable vivacity, vigor, courage and temper” “to instruct them” which means “to prosper, teach and guide them, the people of Israel”. Nehemiah shared how the Levites referred to the way Jehovah God provided His pleasant and agreeable vigor and temper to guide and teach the people of Israel.
The verse goes on to say, “and withheld not your manna from their mouth, and gave them water for their thirst.” Nehemiah continued with the words, “and withheld not” or “and did not keep back, refrain or deny” “your manna”which means “your, Jehovah God's, grain or food” “for their mouth” or “on behalf of their, the people of Israel's, orifice in the face for eating, drinking and speaking”, “and gave them water” which means “and granted, bestowed, ascribed and dedicated refreshing water” “for their thirst” or “on behalf of their, the people of Israel's, desire and drive for drink”. Nehemiah shared how the Levites remembered the way Jehovah God did not refrain from providing food and drink for the people of Israel.
When we meditate upon Nehemiah's words in this verse, we learn how the Levites referred to the “goodness” of Jehovah God toward the people of Israel. He provided His valuable vigor and temper to teach them, and He did not refrain from providing them with “food and drink” even after they forsook Him for a “god” made with “molten gold”. God loves people, and He knows we have sinned against Him. Those sins lead to death, and when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of the world and resurrected Him from the dead three days later so when we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and provide for us in this life and in the next in Heaven with Him. (See Romans 3:23, 6:23; John 3:16)
Next time Nehemiah shares how the Levites said of Jehovah God, “forty years did you sustain them in the wilderness”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
