In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah said, “Now in the twenty and fourth day of this month the children of Israel were assembled with fasting, and with sack-clothes, and earth upon them. And the seed of Israel separated themselves from all strangers, and stood and confessed their sins, and the iniquities of their fathers”, and in chapter nine and verse three of Nehemiah, Nehemiah said the people of Israel were, “reading, confessing and worshiping” where we read,
And they stood up in their place, and read in the book of the law of the LORD their God one fourth part of the day; and another fourth part they confessed, and worshiped the LORD their God.
The verse reads, “And they stood up in their place, and read in the book of the law of the LORD their God one fourth part of the day;” Nehemiah began with the words, “and they stood up” which means “and they, the people of Israel, arose and erected their own selves” “in their place” or “within their, the people of Israel's, location and set point”, “and read in the book” which means “and read within the inscribed and engraved mission or document” “of the law” or “pertaining to the direction, instruction, codes, customs and manners” “of the LORD their God” which means “belonging to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God who is the people of Israels Supreme Deity” “one forth part of the day” or “one quarter portion belonging to the sunrise to sunset”. Nehemiah shared how the people of Israel arose to their feet in their spots and read the written document containing the direction and instruction belonging to Jehovah God who was their Supreme Deity, and they continued doing so for “one-fourth” portion of the day.
The verse goes on to say, “and another fourth part they confessed, and worshiped the LORD their God.” Nehemiah continued with the words, “and another fourth part” or “and one other quarter portion of the sunrise to sunset” “they confessed” which means “they, the people of Israel, shot forth and made confession and admission”, “and worshiped the LORD their God” or “and gave homage, honor, glory and reverence to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God who is the people of Israel's Supreme Deity”. Nehemiah said one other quarter portion of the “day” the people of Israel admitted their sins and iniquities as well as gave homage, honor and reverence to Jehovah God who is the people of Israel's Supreme Deity.
When we consider Nehemiah's words in this verse, we discover how there was great repentance and adoration made by the people of Israel as they fasted. They divided their time in quarters of the “day” to give place to reading God's word and an other quarter of the “day” to admitting their errors and wrongs. God's word brings conviction upon those who read it, and when our sin is revaled, we are to “confess” our sins and believe and trust in God's Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was resurrected from the dead three days later. (See 1 John 1:9) When we yield to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and guide us into all truth by His Holy Spirit who will empower us to live according to His truth to the glory and honor of Almighty God.
Next time Nehemiah shares about those who, “stood up the stairs”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
