In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah said, “You, even you, are LORD alone; you have made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth, and all things that are therein, the seas, and all that is therein, and you preserve them all; and the host of heaven worships you. You are the LORD the God, who did choose Abram, and brought him forth out of Ur of the Chaldees, and gave him the name of Abraham”, and in chapter nine and verse eight of Nehemiah, Nehemiah shared about Abraham how God, “found his heart faithful” where we read,
And found his heart faithful before you, and made a covenant with him to give the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Jebusites, and the Girgashites,
to give it, I say, to his seed, and have performed your words; for you are righteous:
The verse reads, “And found his heart faithful before you, and made a covenant with him ...” Nehemiah began with the words, “and found his heart faithful” which means “and discovered his, Abraham's, soul, mind, will, inner man, desires and seat of emotions and affections supported, confirmed and established” “before you” or “in front and in the presence of you, people of Israel”, “and made a covenant with him” which means “and formed an alliance, pledge and treaty with him, Abraham”. Nehemiah shared how the Levites recalled how Jehovah God discovered that Abraham's soul was confirmed and established, and He formed an alliance and treaty with him.
The verse continues, “... to give the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Jebusites, and the Girgashites ” Nehemiah added the words, “to give the land” or “to grant, bestow, ascribe and entrust the ground, district, territory and region” “of the Canaanites” which means “belonging to the Canaanites whose name means zealous”, “the Hittites” or “the people whose name means descendant of Heth”, “the Amorites” whose name means “a sayer”, “and the Perizzites” or “and the ones whose name means belonging to a village”, “and the Jebusites”whose name means “descendants of Jebus”, “and the Girgashites” or “the people whose name means dwelling on a clayey soil”. Nehemiah shared how Jehovah God bestowed upon Abraham the territories belonging to the “Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Jebusites, and the Girgashites”.
Finally the verse says, “to give it, I say, to his seed, and have performed your words; for you are righteous:” Nehemiah ended this verse with the words, “to give it” or “to grant, bestow, ascribe and trust the above listed districts”, “I say”which means “I, the Levites, utter, declare and proclaim”, “to his seed” which means “to his, Abraham's, offspring and progeny”, “and have performed your words” or “and have stood up to, established, maintained and confirmed your utterances, declarations, proclamations and sayings”; “for you are righteous” which means “because, since and on account that you, Jehovah God, exist as just, lawful and correct”. Nehemiah ended this verse by sharing how the Levites referred to the way Jehovah God promised Abraham that his offspring would inherit the lands given to them, and because He is just and true, God kept His proclamations.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Nehemiah that the Levites continued to recall Jehovah God's blessing of Abraham. God discovered the faithfulness of Abraham and made a treaty with him in which He bestowed upon him the territories of the “Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Jebusites and the Girgashites”, and these territories were to be inherited by his offspring because Jehovah God is true and just. God loved Abraham, and He loves the people of Israel who descended through Him. He loves us as well, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross and to be resurrected from the grave three days later so that all who put their faith and trust in Him will be forgiven of their sins, granted everlasting life and given the opportunity to live in His territory, Heaven, for all eternity.
Next time Nehemiah shares how Jehovah God saw, “the affliction of our fathers in Egypt”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
