The Chief of the People - Nehemiah 10:14

In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah speaking of the “sealing” of the “sure covenant” the people of Israel made with Jehovah God said, Now those that sealed were, Nehemiah, the Tirshatha” and others including, “the priests, and the Levites, and their brethren, Shebaniah, Hodijah, Kelita, Pelaiah, Hanan, Micha, Rehob, Hashabiah, Zaccur, Sherebiah, Shebaniah, Hodijah, Bani and Beninu”, and in chapter ten and verse fourteen of Nehemiah, Nehemiah named, “the chief of the people” where we read,

The chief of the people; Parosh, Pahathmoab, Elam, Zatthu, Bani, ...

The verse reads, The chief of the people;” Nehemiah began with the words, “the chief” whose name means “the head, top, summit and best” “of the people” or “belonging to the human beings both male and female”. Nehemiah shared how the best of the human beings in Israel were as follows.

The verse goes on to say, “Parosh, Pahathmoab, Elam, Zatthu, Bani ...” Nehemiah mentioned, “Parosh” whose name means “”, Pahathmoab” or “pit of Moab”, “Elam” whose name means “eternity”, “Zatthu” or “brightness of him”, “Bani” whose name means “built”. Nehemiah shared how, “ Parosh, Pahathmoab, Elam, Zatthu and Bani” were added the brethren of the Levites who signed the covenant agreement with Jehovah God.

When we consider the words in this verse, we discover through Nehemiah that Parosh, Pahathmoab, Elam, Zatthu and Bani” were the heads of the people of Israel, and they also signed the “sure covenant” with Jehovah God. God wants all people to be in a “covenant” relationship with Him, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind and resurrected Him from the dead three days later. When we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us a desire to continue in relationship with Him for all eternity.

Next time Nehemiah mentions, “Bunni, Azgad and Bebai”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
