In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah speaking of the “sealing” of the “sure covenant” the people of Israel made with Jehovah God said, “Now those that sealed were, Nehemiah, the Tirshatha” and others including, “the priests, and the Levites, and their brethren, Shebaniah, Hodijah, Kelita, Pelaiah, Hanan, Micha, Rehob, Hashabiah, Zaccur, Sherebiah, Shebaniah, Hodijah, Bani, Beninu. The chief of the people; Parosh, Pahathmoab, Elam, Zatthu, Bani, Bunni, Azgad, Bebai, Adonijah, Bigvai and Adin ...”, and in chapter ten and verse seventeen of Nehemiah, Nehemiah named, “Ater, Hizkijah and Azzur ...” where we read,
Ater, Hizkijah, Azzur
The verse reads, “Ater, Hizkijah, Azzur” Nehemiah began with the word, “Ater” whose name means “binder”, “Hizkijah” or Hizkiah or Hezekiah whose name means “Jehovah is my strength”, “Azzur” whose name means “he that assists”. Nehemiah shared how the men whose names mean, “binder, Jehovah is my strength and he that assists” signed their names to the “sure covenant” with Jehovah God.
When we consider Nehemiah's words in this verse, we learn how “Ater, Hizkijah and Azzur” were added to the list of names of the “chief of the people” of Israel who “sealed” the “sure covenant” with Jehovah God. One by one these men demonstrated their commitment to follow Jehovah God and His ways, and no doubt after all the difficulties they endured, they desired to keep their allegiance with loyalty. God wants us to be this way as well, however, He knows we are weak and sinful at times. For this reason He sent His Son Jesus to take our place on the cross where He died for our sins and raised Him from the dead three days later. When we put our faith and trust in Jesus, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and show us over and over again how He is the strength of our relationship which shall last forever and ever.
Next time Nehemiah names, “Hodijah, Hashum and Bezai, ...”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
