In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah speaking of the “sealing” of the “sure covenant” the people of Israel made with Jehovah God said, “Now those that sealed were, Nehemiah, the Tirshatha” and others including, “the priests, and the Levites, and their brethren, Shebaniah, Hodijah, Kelita, Pelaiah, Hanan, Micha, Rehob, Hashabiah, Zaccur, Sherebiah, Shebaniah, Hodijah, Bani, Beninu. The chief of the people; Parosh, Pahathmoab, Elam, Zatthu, Bani, Bunni, Azgad and Bebai, Adonijah, Bigvai, Adin, Ater, Hizkijah and Azzur ...”, and in chapter ten and verse eighteen of Nehemiah, Nehemiah named, “Hodijah, Hashum and Bezai ...” where we read,
Hodijah, Hashum, Bezai
The verse reads, “Hodijah, Hashum, Bezai” Nehemiah began with the word, “Hodijah” whose name means “majesty of Jehovah”, “Hashum” or “rich”, “Bezai” whose name means “conquerer”. Nehemiah shared how the men of Israel whose names mean, “majesty of Jehovah, rich and conquerer” were among those who signed the “covenant” agreement with Jehovah God.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Nehemiah that three other “chiefs of the people” put their “seal” upon the document that confirmed their commitment to Jehovah God and His ways. God invites everyone to commit to Him through His Son Jesus who was crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was resurrected from the dead three days later. When we submit to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put His Holy Spirit within us so we may live in keeping with ways that bless and please Him.
Next time Nehemiah names, “Hariph, Anathoth, Nebai ...”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
