In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah speaking of the “sealing” of the “sure covenant” the people of Israel made with Jehovah God said, “Now those that sealed were, Nehemiah, the Tirshatha, the son of Hachaliah, and Zidkijah, Seraiah, Azariah, Jeremiah, Pashur, Amariah, Malchijah, Hattush, Shebaniah, Malluch, Harim, Meremoth and Obadiah, ...”, and in chapter ten and verse six of Nehemiah, Nehemiah named, “Daniel, Ginnethon and Baruch” where we read,
Daniel, Ginnethon, Baruch ...
The verse reads, “Daniel, Ginnethon, Baruch ...” Nehemiah began with the word, “Daniel” whose name means “God is my judge”, “Ginnethon” or “gardener who was a priest among the exiles who returned with Zerubbabel and who covenanted with Nehemiah”, “Baruch” whose name means “blessed ”. Nehemiah shared how “Daniel, Ginnethon and Baruch” were among the men of Israel who “sealed” the “sure covenant” with Jehovah God.
When we meditate upon Nehemiah's words in this verse, we learn how he added three more men of Israel who signed the “sure treaty” with Jehovah God. These men were committed to keeping their relationship with God, and perhaps, we have made this type of commitment as well. We are human, and we often fail to keep our word. This is sin, and sin separates us from a personal relationship with God. For this reason God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and He raised Him from the dead three days later so when we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and keep His covenant with us for all eternity.
