In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah shared how the Levites said of Jehovah God, “you are righteous. And did see the affliction of our fathers in Egypt, and heard their cry by the Red sea. And showed signs and wonders upon Pharaoh, and on all his servants, and on all the people of his land: for you knew that they dealt proudly against them. So did you get you a name, as it is this day. And you did divide the sea before them, so that they went through the midst of the sea on the dry land; and their persecutors you threw into the deeps, as a stone into the mighty waters. Moreover you led them in the day by a cloudy pillar; and in the night by a pillar of fire, to give them light in the way wherein they should go”, and in chapter nine and verse thirteen of Nehemiah, Nehemiah shared how Jehovah God, “came down also upon mount Sinai” where we read,
You came down also upon mount Sinai, and spoke with them from heaven,
and gave them right judgments, and true laws, good statutes and commandments:
The verse reads, “You came down also upon mount Sinai, and spoke with them from heaven, ...” Nehemiah began with the words, “your came down also” which means “you, Jehovah God, descended even so and indeed” “upon mount Sinai” or “on the rising above the plain known as Sinai whose name means thorny and was the mountain where Moses received the Law from Jehovah”, “and spoke with them” which means “and made utterance, declaration and proclamation alongside them, the people of Israel” “from heaven” or “from the location of the visible sky, atmosphere and sidereal heavens where Jehovah God dwells along with other spiritual angels and messengers.”. Nehemiah shared how the Levites referred to the way Jehovah God descended on the mountain known as “Sinai” and made declarations to the people of Israel from the visible sky and sidereal heavens.
The verse goes on to say “.... and gave them right judgments, and true laws, good statutes and commandments:” Nehemiah continued with the words, “and gave them” or “and granted, bestowed and ascribed to them, the people of Israel” “right judgments” which means “straight, upright and correct ordinances, procedures, decisions and acts of deciding a case”, “and true laws” or “and faithful, firm, sure and reliable directions, instructions and codes”, “good statutes” which means “pleasant, agreeable and excellent limits, tasks, portions and actions” “and commandments” or “and codes or precepts of wisdom”. Nehemiah shared how the Levites recalled how Jehovah God bestowed upon the people of Israel correct procedures and acts of deciding a case as well as reliable instructions, agreeable actions and precepts of wisdom.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Nehemiah how the Levites remembered the way Jehovah God descended upon “mount Sinai” to speak from “heaven” with the people of Israel. He provided upright procedures, excellent actions and agreeable precepts to them. God knew what was best for the people of Israel, and He knows the same for us. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind and raised Him from the dead three days later so when we put our faith and trust in Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us the value of knowing His “judgments, laws, statutes and commandments” which are meant for our good. (See Romans 8:28-29)
Next time Nehemiah shares how the Levites say Jehovah God, “made known unto them your holy sabbath”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
