In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah speaking of the “sealing” of the “sure covenant” the people of Israel made with Jehovah God said, “Now those that sealed were, Nehemiah, the Tirshatha” and others including, “the priests, and the Levites, and their brethren” and the “chief of the people” which included, “Parosh, Pahathmoab, Elam, Zatthu, Bani, Bunni, Azgad, Bebai, Adonijah, Bigvai, Adin, Ater, Hizkijah, Azzur, Hodijah, Hashum and Bezai”, and in chapter ten and verse nineteen of Nehemiah, Nehemiah named, “Hariph, Anathoth and Nebai ...” where we read,
Hariph, Anathoth, Nebai
The verse reads, “Hariph, Anathoth, Nebai” Nehemiah began with the word, “Hariph” whose name means “a plucking off”, “Anathoth” or “answers to prayer”, “Nebai” whose name means “fruitful”. Nehemiah shared how the men of Israel whose names mean, “a plucking off, answers to prayer and fruitful” also signed the “sure covenant” with Jehovah God.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Nehemiah more of the names of the men of Israel who “signed” the document which said the people of Israel would commit themselves to keep the laws and ways of Jehovah God from that point forward. The people of Israel suffered greatly for their insolence, and now that Jehovah God restored them and their land once again, they desired to have Him be the LORD of their lives. God wants us to come to Him through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and He was raised from the dead three days afterward so all who believe and trust in Him as their “Savior and Lord” will be forgiven of their sins, granted everlasting life and enjoy a covenant relationship with God in Heaven for all eternity.
