Their Brethren - Nehemiah 10:10

In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah speaking of the “sealing” of the “sure covenant” the people of Israel made with Jehovah God said, “Now those that sealed were, Nehemiah, the Tirshatha” and others including, “the priests, and the Levites”, and in chapter ten and verse ten of Nehemiah, Nehemiah named, “their brethren” where we read,

And their brethren, Shebaniah, Hodijah, Kelita, Pelaiah, Hanan,

The verse reads, “And their brethren,” Nehemiah began with the words, “and their brethren” which means “and their, the Levites', fellow Levites”. Nehemiah shared how the following names were included among the list of fellow “Levites” who signed the “sure covenant” with Jehovah God.

The verse continues, “Shebaniah, Hodijah, Kelita, Pelaiah, Hanan, ...” Nehemiah added the word, “Shebaniah” which means “increased by Jehovah”, “Hodijah” or “majesty of Jehovah”, “Kelita” which means “crippled”, “Pelaiah” or “Jehovah does wonders”, “Hanan” which means “he is merciful”. Nehemiah shared how fellow “Levites” whose names mean, “increased by Jehovah, majesty of Jehovah, crippled, Jehovah does wonders and he is merciful” were also among the men of Israel who signed the covenant agreement with Jehovah God.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Nehemiah about fellow “Levites” named, “Shebaniah, Hodijah, Kelita, Pelaiah, Hanan” who “sealed” the treaty with Jehovah God. God wants everyone to come to Him through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and He raised Him from the dead three days later so all who yield their lives to Him will be forgiven of their sins, granted everlasting life and be “increased by Jehovah”, enjoy His “majesty” even though their lives were “crippled” because “Jehovah does wonders” and “is merciful”.
