Rehum, Hashabnah and Maaseiah - Nehemiah 10:25

In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah speaking of the “sealing” of the “sure covenant” the people of Israel made with Jehovah God said, Now those that sealed were, Nehemiah, the Tirshatha” and others including, “the priests, and the Levites, and their brethren” which included, “Hodijah, Hashum, Bezai, Hariph, Anathoth, Nebai, Magpiash, Meshullam, Hezir, Meshezabeel, Zadok, Jaddua, Pelatiah, Hanan, Anaiah, Hoshea, Hananiah, Hashub, Hallohesh, Pileha and Shobek”, and in chapter ten and verse twenty-five of Nehemiah, Nehemiah named, “ Rehum, Hashabnah and Maaseiah ...” where we read,

Rehum, Hashabnah, Maaseiah

The verse reads, Rehum, Hashabnah, Maaseiah ... Nehemiah began with the word, “Rehum” whose name means “compassion”, “Hashabnah” or “Jehovah has considered”, “Maaseiah” whose name means “work of Jehovah”. Nehemiah shared how the fellow “Levites” whose names mean, “compassion, Jehovah has considered and work of Jehovah” signed the “sure covenant” with Jehovah God.

When we think through Nehemiah's words in this verse, we discover three additional men who were fellow “Levites” that “sealed” the “sure covenant” with Jehovah God. God accounted for all of these men through Nehemiah, and as each of them made their commitments to Him. God knew their ambition, as noble as it was, would not be kept completely by them, and God knows we violate His laws and commandments as well which is sin. That sin leads to death, and for that reason God sent His Only Begotten Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins and to be raised from the grave three days later. (See Romans 3:23; 6:23: John 3:16) When we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and include our names in His list as He allows us to live with Him in Heaven forever.

Next time Nehemiah says, “and Ahijah, Hanan and Anan ...”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
