Seraiah, Azariah and Jeremiah - Nehemiah 10:2

In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah speaking of the “sealing” of the “sure covenant” the people of Israel made with Jehovah God said, Now those that sealed were, Nehemiah, the Tirshatha, the son of Hachaliah, and Zidkijah, ...”, and in chapter ten and verse two of Nehemiah, Nehemiah mentioned, “Seraiah, Azariah, Jeremiah” who also signed their names where we read,

Seraiah, Azariah, Jeremiah

The verse reads, Seraiah, Azariah, Jeremiah, ...” Nehemiah began with the name, “Seraiah” whose name means “Jehovah is ruler”, “Azariah” or “Jehovah has helped”, “Jeremiah” whose name means “whom Jehovah has appointed”. Nehemiah shared how men whose name mean, “Jehovah is ruler, Jehovah has helped and Jehovah has appointed” signed the “sure covenant”.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Nehemiah that Seraiah, Azariah, Jeremiah” were among the men listed by Nehemiah who signed the “sure covenant” among the people of Israel. Each of these men who signed had names that referred to “Jehovah”, and because He loves people, God wants to be in a personal relationship with everyone. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind and He raised Him from the dead three days later. When we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and include us to His “covenant” list of those who have been “sealed” by His Holy Spirit to live with Him forever. (See 2 Corinthians 1:22)

Next time Nehemiah mentions, “Pashur, Amariah, Malchijah, ...”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
