In Psalms chapter sixty-one David said to Jehovah God, “You will prolong the king's life: and his years as many generations”, and in chapter sixty-one and verse seven of Psalms David said, “He shall abide before God for ever” where we read,
He shall abide before God for ever: O prepare mercy and truth, which may preserve him.
The verse begins, “He shall abide before God for ever:” David began with the words, “He shall abide” or “He, the king, will sit, remain, dwell and stay” “before God” which means “in front and in the presence of the Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God” “for ever” or “unto perpetuity, for long duration, futurity and everlasting”. David said he as the “king” would dwell and remain in front of Jehovah God unto perpetuity.
The verse continues, “O prepare mercy and truth, which may preserve him.” David added the words, “O prepare mercy” or “O count, reckon, number, assign, tell and appoint goodness, kindness and faithfulness” “and truth” which means “and firmness, sureness, reliability, stability and continuance”, “which may preserve him” or “that will guard, watch, keep and protect him, the king”. David appealed to Jehovah God to number and assign goodness, kindness, faithfulness and sureness over him which would keep, guard and protect him.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see how David desired as king to dwell in the presence of Jehovah God eternally, and He knew having God's goodness, kindness, faithfulness and “truth” would enable him to be saved and protected. God wants to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and because mankind was separated from Him by their sins, Jesus came into the world to be crucified on the cross to pay the penalty our sins. When we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and provide his “mercy and truth” to keep and protect us forever and ever.
Next time David says, “So will I sing praise unto your name for ever”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
