In Psalms chapter sixty-four David said, “Hear my voice, O God, in my prayer: preserve my life from fear of the enemy”, and in chapter sixty-four and verse two of Psalms David said, “Hide me from the secret counsel of the wicked” where we read,
Hide me from the secret counsel of the wicked; from the insurrection of the workers of iniquity:
The verse begins, “Hide me from the secret counsel of the wicked;” David began with the words, “hide me” or “keep close and conceal, me, David” “from the secret counsel” which means “separate and apart from the inward, close and intimate conversation and advice” “of the wicked” or “belonging to the bad, mistaken, injurious and evil workers”. David appealed to Jehovah God to keep him secret from the hidden and intimate advice and conversation belonging to evil people.
The verse continues, “from the insurrection of the workers of iniquity:” David added the words, “from the insurrection” or “separate and apart from the tumultuous throng, company and scheming” “of the workers” which means “belonging to the systematic and habitual practice” “of iniquity” or “pertaining to trouble, wickedness, sorrow and idolatry”. David beckoned Jehovah God to guard and protect him against the tumultuous scheming of the people who were committing wickedness, trouble and idolatry.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see how David wanted Jehovah God to protect him from evil people who plotted and schemed against him. Jesus said, “Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets”, and sometimes people scheme and plot against us. There are indeed evil doers in this world, and the chief among them is Satan who doesn't want anyone to trust and believe in God's Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”. Jesus died for the sins of everyone, but some people reject Him and remain in their “wicked” state. Like those opposed to David, they scheme and make evil plans against those who follow Jesus, and for a time it may appear they are victorious, but they shall eventually give an account unto God. God offers His salvation to everyone, but only those who receive Jesus will be protected and preserved for all eternity against those who work “iniquity”.
Next time David says the wicked, “whet their tongue like a sword”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
