A Father to the Fatherless - Psalms 68:5

In Psalms chapter sixty eight David said, “Sing unto God, sing praises unto his name: extol him that rides upon the heavens by his name JAH, and rejoice before him”, and in chapter sixty-eight and verse five of Psalms David said Jehovah God is, “a father of the fatherless” where we read,

A father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widows, is God in his holy habitation.

The verse begins, A father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widows, ... David began with the words, “a father” or “a principal originator, generator and patron” “of the fatherless” which means “pertaining to children who are orphans without a male progenitor”, “and a judge” or “and an advocate or defender” “of the widows” which means “belonging to desolate women whose husbands have died”. David said Jehovah God exists as a “father” of children who have no male progenitor, and He exists as an advocate and defender to women who have lost their husbands.

The verse goes on to say,... is God in his holy habitation. David continued with the words, “is God” or “exists the Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God” “in his holy habitation” which means “within his, Jehovah God's, sacred, separate, apart and hallowed sanctuary, dwelling place, refuge and retreat”. David said the Divine judge Jehovah God exists as a “father of the fatherless” and a “judge of the widows” within His sacred and hallowed dwelling place.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how David identified Jehovah God as caring and compassionate to orphans and widows even as James wrote, “Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world” (See James 1:27). God sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified on the cross to demonstrate His compassion and love for all mankind. When we believe and trust in Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us to be caring and compassionate toward the “orphans and widows” in this world.

Next time David says, “God sets the solitary in families”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
