In Psalms chapter sixty-four David said, “Hide me from the secret counsel of the wicked; from the insurrection of the workers of iniquity”, and in chapter sixty-four and verse three of Psalms David said the wicked, “whet their tongue like a sword” where we read,
Who whet their tongue like a sword, and bend their bows to shoot their arrows, even bitter words:
The verse begins, “Who whet their tongue like a sword, ...” David began with the words, “who whet their tongue” or “who, the people who are wicked and scheme against David, sharpen and pierce their, the wicked people's, wedge in their mouth used for speaking” “like a sword” which means “similar and in likeness to a sharpened knife, cutting tool, axe, dagger or mattock”. David said the wicked people who scheme against him sharpen their “tongues” like cutting knives or swords.
The verse goes on to say, “and bend their bows to shoot their arrows, even bitter words:” David continued with the words, “and bend their bows” or “and pull and draw back their, the wicked people's, hunting bows” “to shoot their arrows” which means “to project their sharpened hunting spears, darts or arrows”, “even bitter words” or “indeed painful, wasteful, angry, chafed and discontented utterances, proclamations and declarations”. David said the wicked people who schemed against him used painful and discontented language to “shoot” like “arrows” from a hunting “bow” toward him.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how David felt about the “words” and “language” of his hating enemies. David spoke of how the wicked people who wanted him destroyed “sharpened” their speech and used their wasteful, discontented and angry words like weapons for hunting or warfare against him. David was not alone in verbal assaults. People plotted and used their speech against Jesus too, and He came into the world to die for the sins of all mankind. God desires to have a personal relationship with every person, and when we surrender our lives to Jesus, He will forgive our sins and grant us everlasting life. We may face the opposition of wicked doers and their discontented and angry words, but God will be with us and assures us that we will be with Him in Heaven one day while He contends with the evildoer's utterances and language.
Next time David says the wicked do this, “that they may shoot in secret at the perfect”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
