In Psalms chapter sixty-six David said, “Come and see the works of God: he is terrible in his doing toward the children of men. He turned the sea into dry land: they went through the flood on foot: there did we rejoice in him”, and in chapter sixty-six and verse seven of Psalms David said, “He rules by his power for ever” where we read,
He rules by his power for ever; his eyes behold the nations:
let not the rebellious exalt themselves. Selah.
The verse begins, “He rules by his power for ever; his eyes behold the nations: ” David began with the words, “He rules by his power” or “He, Jehovah God, has dominion and reigns through the means of his, Jehovah God's, might, strength, valor and bravery” “for ever” which means “for long duration, to antiquity, futurity, to everlasting, perpetually and evermore”; “his eyes” or “his, Jehovah God's, sight, presence and mental and physical faculties” “behold the nations” which means “to look out or about, watch and observe the people of Israel and the non-Hebrews foreigners”. David said Jehovah God has dominion through the means of His strength and might, and He looks upon all the “nations” of the world.
The verse continues, “let not the rebellious exalt themselves. Selah.” David added the words, “let not the rebellious” or “”do not allow or permit the stubborn, refractory and backsliding “exalt themselves” which means “lift up, exalt and set on high their own selves”. “Selah” or “exalt, lift up and pause to meditate upon it”. David said the stubborn and backsliding people should not raise up their own selves, and everyone reading and listening to his words should pause and meditate upon this idea.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how David makes known the sovereignty of Jehovah God. God reigns over the entire world, and He observes everything people do. David called upon Jehovah not to allow the stubborn and refractory people to exalt themselves, and those who are wise meditate upon this idea. When God sent His Son Jesus to be our “Savior and Lord”, He allowed Him to die on the cross for the sins of everyone. When we surrender to Jesus, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and judge the “rebellious” for their opposition to Him. Let us not be named among them who refuse and reject Jesus as the “Savior” of the world.
Next time David says, “O bless our God, you people”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
