In Psalms chapter sixty-five David said to Jehovah God, “You visit the earth, and water it: you greatly enrich it with the river of God, which is full of water: you prepare them corn, when you have so provided for it”, and in chapter sixty-five and verse ten of Psalms David said of Jehovah God, “You water the ridges thereof abundantly” where we read,
You water the ridges thereof abundantly: you settle the furrows thereof:
you make it soft with showers: you bless the springing thereof.
The verse begins, “You water the ridges thereof abundantly: you settle the furrows thereof:” David began with the words, “you water the ridges thereof ” or “you, Jehovah God, satiate and saturate the banks or furrows of the ground with water” “abundantly” which means “to a soaking state”: “you settle the furrows thereof” or “you, Jehovah God, bring down, press down and penetrate within the cuttings or incisions in the ground”. David said Jehovah God drenches the plowed ground with water and rain which breaks up the clods of dirt and levels the ridges within the field.
The verse continues, “you make it soft with showers: you bless the springing thereof.” David added the words, “you make it soft with showers” or “you, Jehovah God, cause the ground to melt, dissolve and dissipate by the use of copious raindrops”: “you bless the springing thereof” which means “you, Jehovah God, adore, praise and salute the sprouting, branches and growth”. David said Jehovah God dissolves the ground with copious rain, and He salutes the sprouting and growth within it.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through David that Jehovah God is responsible for “watering” the earth, and He oversees the crops produced within it. Jehovah God created the world and He owns it. (See Psalm 24:1) He provides for mankind physically with the watering of crops, and He decides the amount it produces. God also provided salvation to mankind by sending His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. God wants to have an intimate personal relationship with everyone, and when we believe and trust in His Son Jesus as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and provide for us not only upon the earth, but also in Heaven forever and ever.
Next time David says of Jehovah God, “You crown the year with your goodness; and your paths drop fatness”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
