In Psalms chapter thirty one David said, “I was a reproach among all my enemies, but especially among my neighbors, and a fear to my acquaintance: they that did see me without fled from me”, and in chapter thirty one and verse twelve of Psalms David said, “I am forgotten as a dead man”, where we read,
I am forgotten as a dead man out of mind: I am like a broken vessel.
The verse begins, “I am forgotten as a dead man out of mind:” David began with the words, “I am forgotten” which means “I, David, exist as ignored, withered and ceased to care” “as a dead man” or “like unto a person whether male or female who has been executed, killed and put to death” “out of mind” which means “and absent from thoughts or understanding”. David said he was ignored like a person who was executed and put to death.
The verse goes on to say, “I am like a broken vessel.” David continued with the words, “I am like” or “I, David, exists in similar fashion to” “a broken vessel” which means “a damaged and imperfect pot, article, implement or utensil”. David said he was similar to a damaged and imperfect pot or article.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see what David believed others were thinking about him. He felt “forgotten” like a person who died, and he was similar to a broken pot or vessel. Loneliness, isolation and abandonment can be difficult to manage, and when people shun or avoid us, we may be saddened or fall into depression. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified for all mankind, and when we believe and trust in Jesus, we will be forgiven of our sins, granted everlasting life and be accompanied by the Creator of the Universe. Though people may “forget us” and we may feel “broken”, Jesus Christ will never forget us because He considers us to be valuable in the world.
Next time David says, “I have heard the slander of many”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
