The LORD is Near the Broken Hearted - Psalms 34:18

In Psalms chapter thirty four David wrote, The righteous cry, and the LORD hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles”, and in chapter thirty-four and verse eighteen of Psalms, David said, “The LORD is near unto them that are of a broken heart” where we read,

The LORD is near unto them that are of a broken heart; and saves such as be of a contrite spirit.

The verse begins, The LORD is near unto them that are of a broken heart;” David began with the words, “The LORD is near” which means “Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God is allied with, close and at hand” “unto them that are of a broken heart” or “toward people whether male or female who have a maimed, ruptured, crushed and shatter into pieces inner man, soul, will, understanding, reflection, knowledge, thinking, conscience and seat of appetites, emotions and passions”. David declared that Jehovah God is close to every person who has a crushed, ruptured and maimed inner man, soul, will and seat of emotions and passions.

The verse continues, and saves such as be of a contrite spirit. David added the words, “and saves” or “and delivers, liberates and makes victorious” “such as be of a contrite spirit” which means “the people who have a disposition and seat of moral character that has been crushed to powder and destruction”. David shared how Jehovah God liberates and delivers people who have dispositions that have been crushed and destroyed.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through David how Jehovah God is close to people who have their “hearts” or “souls” “broken” or crushed. He knows people, circumstances and situations can “break” and rupture the inner being and “heart” of us, and when that happens, He is with us as we continue in a “moral character” that is in keeping with His law and goodness. God loves us, and His desire is to have a personal relationship with us through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins. When we submit to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and be near and rescue us when difficulties and afflictions arise.

Next time David says, Many are the afflictions of the righteous, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
