Stand Up for My Help - Psalms 35:2

In Psalms chapter thirty five David said, “Plead my cause, O LORD, with them that strive with me: fight against them that fight against me”, and in chapter thirty-five and verse two of Psalms, David appealed to Jehovah God to, “stand up for my help” where we read,

Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for my help.

The verse begins, Take hold of shield and buckler, ...” David began with the words, “take hold” which means “strengthen, prevail, harden and make strong and firm” “of shield” or “of a defensive small protective armor” “and buckler” which means “and a piercing hook, barb or large protective armor”. David wanted Jehovah God to strengthen and take up a small and large protective armament.

The verse continues,... and stand up for my help. David added the words, “and stand up” or “and arise, come on the scene, be established and confirmed” “for my help” which means “on behalf of my, David's, succor, assistance and aid”. David appealed to Jehovah God to arise and give him aid.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how David wanted Jehovah God to take action. He likened Jehovah to a warrior who would use small and large “shields” to protect themselves in battle, and David was in a war. People were striving and fighting with him, and David knew his best defense was Jehovah God. David was God's chosen man for the time in which he lived, and God chooses every person who will yield to His Son Jesus as their “Lord and Savior”. Let us give praise, honor and glory to Jehovah God who will rise up, defend and “help” us because we have put our faith and trust in Him.

Next time David says, stop the way against them that persecute me, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
