The LORD's Mercy in the Heavens - Psalms 36:5

In Psalms chapter thirty six David said, “The transgression of the wicked says within my heart, that there is no fear of God before his eyes. For he flatters himself in his own eyes, until his iniquity be found to be hateful. The words of his mouth are iniquity and deceit: he has left off to be wise, and to do good. He devises mischief upon his bed; he sets himself in a way that is not good; he abhors not evil”, and in chapter thirty six and verse five of Psalms David said, “Your mercy, O LORD, is in the heavens” where we read,

Your mercy, O LORD, is in the heavens; and your faithfulness reaches unto the clouds.

The verse begins, Your mercy, O LORD, is in the heavens; David began with the words, “your mercy” which means “Your, Jehovah God's, goodness, kindness and faithfulness”, “O LORD” or “Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”, “is in the heavens” which means “exists within the visible sky, universe, atmosphere and abode of God”. David said Jehovah God's goodness and faithfulness exists within the sky, atmosphere and region in which He dwells.

The verse continues, and your faithfulness reaches unto the clouds. David added the words, “and your faithfulness” or “and your, Jehovah God's, firmness, fidelity and steadfastness” “reaches unto the clouds” which means “extends toward the small dust and thin vapor above the firmament”. David wrote how Jehovah God's fidelity and steadfastness extends to the “clouds” above the earth.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how David turned his attention away from the “wicked” and toward Jehovah God. He began to declare the character of Jehovah in contrast to the “wicked” as he wrote of God's “goodness and faithfulness”. He spoke of Jehovah God's fidelity and steadfastness being extended toward the sky above which means it is immeasurable. God loves people, and He desires to extend His “mercy” to everyone who yields themselves to His Son Jesus. God sent Jesus into the world to be crucified for the sins of all mankind, and anyone who yields to Him will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life with Him. God is “faithful”, and He invites everyone to come to Him through His Son Jesus and enjoy His presence forever and ever.

Next time David says, Your righteousness is like the great mountains, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
