Boasting in the LORD - Psalms 34:2

In Psalms chapter thirty four David wrote, “I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth”, and in chapter thirty-four and verse two of Psalms, David said, “My soul shall make her boast in the LORD” where we read,

My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad.

The verse begins, My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: David began with the words, “My soul” which means “my, David's, inner man, self, appetite, mind, living being, desire, emotion and passion” “shall make her boast” or “ will shine forth, be boastful, commend and celebrate” “in the LORD” which means “within Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. David declared that his entire being would be boastful and celebrate Jehovah God.

The verse continues, the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad. David added the words, “the humble” or “the afflicted, poor, needy, weak and lowly” “shall hear thereof” which means “listen to with attention, understand, give heed and be obedient”, “and be glad” or “and exist as rejoicing, exulting and filled with glee”. David wrote how people who are poor, weak and afflicted will give heed to David's boast in Jehovah God and be merry and rejoicing.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how David commended and celebrated Jehovah God, and because of this, people who have been afflicted and needy listen, rejoice and are filled with glee. God loves when people “boast” about Him because the attention is not upon themselves, but Him. God gives life, breath and gifts to people, and His greatest gift is salvation from the penalty of sins through His Son Jesus who died on the cross to pay for them. When we put our faith and trust in Jesus, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and constantly provide us with an opportunity to commend and celebrate Him for all eternity.

Next time David says, O magnify the LORD with me, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
