Cut Down Like Grass - Psalms 37:2

In Psalms chapter thirty seven David said, “Fret not yourself because of evildoers, neither be you envious against the workers of iniquity”, and in chapter thirty seven and verse two of Psalms David said, “they shall soon be cut down like the grass” where we read,

For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.

The verse begins, “For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, ... David began with the words, “For they shall soon be cut down” or “because, since and on account that they, the evildoers and workers of iniquity, will hastily and speedily be clipped or cut off” “like the grass” or “similar and in likeness to the green herbage, leek or hay”. David said people who commit evil and “iniquity” would suddenly and quickly be clipped like the green “grass” of a field.

The verse goes on to say, “... and wither as the green herb. David continued with the words, “and wither” or “and be made foolish, contemptible, despised, disgraced and dishonored” “as the green herb” which means “in likeness and similar to the greenness in new or young grass or vegetation”. David wrote how people who commit evil and iniquities would be made contemptible, disgraced and dishonored like young grass or vegetation that has been cut.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how David spoke of the judgment of people who commit evil and iniquity. Though for a while it may seem that they prosper and flourish, but there will be a time when they are “cut down” like the grass or vegetation in a field. They are disconnected from the “life” source, and they wilt and die. God desires to have a personal intimate relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and He sent Jesus into the world to be crucified for the sins of all mankind. Because He paid that price and was raised three days later, anyone who believes and trusts in Him as their “Savior and Lord” will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life with God. We are reminded by David that people who seem to be profiting and benefitting from their “evil and iniquity” shall soon be “cut down”, and we are wise to align ourselves with Jehovah God so that we are not among them.

Next time David says, Trust in the LORD, and do good, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
