Trust in the LORD and Do Good - Psalms 37:3

In Psalms chapter thirty seven David said, “Fret not yourself because of evildoers, neither be you envious against the workers of iniquity. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb”, and in chapter thirty seven and verse three of Psalms David said, “Trust in the LORD, and do good” where we read,

Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shall you dwell in the land, and verily you shall be fed.

The verse begins, Trust in the LORD, and do good; David began with the word, “Trust” or “be bold, have confidence and be secure” “in the LORD” or “within Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”, “and do good” which means “and fashion, make, produce and prepare pleasant, agreeable, appropriate, happy and prosperous acts and deeds”. David encouraged his readers and listeners to put their confidence and security within Jehovah God and make and produce pleasant, agreeable and prosperous deeds.

The verse continues,so shall you dwell in the land, and verily you shall be fed. David added the words, “so shall you dwell” or “and thus or therefore you, people who trust in the LORD and do good, will settle down, abide, reside and be established” “in the land” which means “within the earth, country, territory, region and district”, “and verily” or “and truly or surely” “you shall be fed” which means “you, people who trust in the LORD and do good, will feed, graze and be as companions or friends”. David wrote how “people who trust in the LORD and do good” will abide in their territory and district and most assuredly be nourished like companions and friends there.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how David encouraged his readers and listeners to put their faith and confidence within Jehovah God, and while they were doing so, they were to perform and produce “good” deeds. This would result in Jehovah God's provision and care for them as they lived in their territories and districts. God loves to provide people with what they need, and when they come to Him through His Son Jesus, He will forgive their sins, grant them everlasting life and care for them both now and throughout eternity. We have an opportunity to turn aside from “fretting” over “evildoers and workers of iniquity”, and put our confidence and faith in Jesus Christ who will become our provision and protection as we yield our lives to Him.

Next time David says, Delight yourself also in the LORD, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
