Your Enemies Have Reproached - Psalms 89:51

In Psalms eighty nine Ethan the Psalmist said, “Remember, Lord, the reproach of your servants; how I do bear in my bosom the reproach of all the mighty people”, and in chapter eighty nine and verse fifty-one of Psalms Ethan said to Jehovah God, “wherewith your enemies have reproached, O LORD” where we read,

Wherewith your enemies have reproached, O LORD;

wherewith they have reproached the footsteps of your anointed.

The verse begins, Wherewith your enemies have reproached, O LORD; Ethan began with the words, “wherewith your enemies” or “which your, Jehovah God's, hating foes and adversaries” “have reproached” which means “have mocked, scorned, disgraced, taunted, blasphemed, defied and upbraided”, “O LORD” or “O Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. Ethan recalled how the hating foes of Jehovah God scorned and disgraced him.

The verse continues,wherewith they have reproached the footsteps of your anointed. Ethan added the words, “wherewith they have reproached” or “with which they, the hating foes of Jehovah God, have mocked, scorned, disgraced, taunted, blasphemed, defied and upbraided” “the footsteps” which means “the pathways and steps of the feet” “of your anointed” or “belonging to your, Jehovah God's, consecrated one”. Ethan said the hating foes of Jehovah God have scorned and disgraced the pathways and steps of His consecrated one.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how Ethan continued to cry out to Jehovah God as he reminded Him of the scorn and disgrace that was caused by His hating adversaries, and he said they mocked and taunted the steps traveled by God's “anointed” one as well. God's “anointed” king of Israel was David, and he continually faced people who opposed him. The same can be said for Jesus Christ who came into the world to die on the cross for the sins of mankind. Although Jesus came to offer “salvation” to mankind, many people scorned, mocked and taunted Him. Jesus died for me, and He died for you so that we could live with Him forever in Heaven. When we receive Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and watch over our “footsteps” regardless of whether others mock and taunt us for believing in Him.

Next time Ethan the Psalmist says, “Blessed be the LORD for evermore”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
