The Children of Israel Shall Return - Hosea 3:5

In the book of Hosea, Hosea shared how Jehovah God said to the nation of Israel, “the children of Israel shall abide many days without a king, and without a prince, and without a sacrifice, and without an image, and without an ephod, and without teraphim”, and in chapter three and verse five of Hosea, Hosea shared how Jehovah God said, “afterward shall the children of Israel return” where we read,

Afterward shall the children of Israel return, and seek the LORD their God,

and David their king; and shall fear the LORD and his goodness in the latter days.

The verse begins, “Afterward shall the children of Israel return, and seek the LORD their God, ...” Hosea began with the words, “afterward shall the children of Israel” or “following behind this time will the offspring and descendants belonging to Israel whose name means God prevails and is the name of the descendants and the nation of the descendants of Jacob” “return” which means “turn or come back”, “and seek the LORD” or “ and look, search, desire and request for Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “their God” or “their, the nation of Israel's, Supreme Deity and True God”. Hosea shared how Jehovah God referred to the time when the offspring of Israel would come back and search and desired Him as their Supreme Deity.

The verse goes on to say, “... and David their king; and shall fear the LORD and his goodness in the latter days.” Hosea continued with the words, “and David their king” or “and David whose name means beloved and was the youngest son of Jesse and the second king of Israel, their, the nation of Israel's, royal ruler and leader”; “and shall fear the LORD” which means “and will have reverence, respect and awe toward Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “and his goodness” or “and his, Jehovah God's, beauty, joy, prosperity and welfare” “in the latter days”which means “within the after part, end and hindermost divisions and periods of time”. Hosea shared how “David” (or one from the lineage of David) would be their royal ruler, and they would have reverence and awe toward Jehovah God and the kindness and beauty He gives during the latter division of days.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Hosea how Jehovah God knew the offspring of the nation of Israel would return to Him and desire Him. He knew they would request to have their “Messiah” who came through King David of Israel which is Jesus, and following their commitment to Him, they would reverence and fear Jehovah God and receive His kindness and prosperity within the final divisions of time. God loves the nation of Israel, and He loves every person who yields their life to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for all mankind. When we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us a desire to put Him first in our lives as we give Him our reverence and awe for all eternity.

Next time we begin a new chapter and see Hosea say, “hear the word of the LORD, you children of Israel”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
