The beloved physician Luke wrote how, “a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare you, and the paps which you have sucked”, and in chapter eleven and verse twenty-eight of his book Luke shared how Jesus said, “blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it” where we read:
But he said, Yes rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.
The verse reads, “But he said, Yes rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, ...” Luke began with the words, “but he said” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover Jesus uttered, declared and proclaimed”, “yes rather” which means “even so and indeed instead, surely, and doubtless”, “blessed are they” or “oh how happy and fortunate are the people whether male or female” “that hear the word of God” which means “who are given the faculty for hearing, perceiving, understanding and discerning the speech, decree, mandate and order of the moral precepts belonging to the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprise of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”. Luke shared how Jesus proclaimed the person who “hears” the “word of God” is “blessed and fortunate”.
The verse goes on to say, “... and keep it.” Luke continued with the words, “and keep” or “and guard, keep watch over, protect, observe, care for and preserve” “it” which means “the word of God”. Luke shared how Jesus said the person who “cares for, observes and preserves” God's word are “blessed” as well.
When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we learn who Jesus said people who “hear” God's word and “observe” it are “blessed”. God provided His word to allow people to know Him, His Son Jesus, His Holy Spirit and His ways, and when a person listens to and obeys what He has to say, they benefit their own lives and become “blessed”. God loves people, and He gave His only begotten Son Jesus to pay for their sins so they could have a personal relationship with Him. Those who are wise will read God's word, hear God's word and obey God's word and find themselves the most “blessed” people in the world.
Next time Luke shares how Jesus says, “this is an evil generation”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
