The beloved physician Luke wrote how Jesus said, “the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. And as they heard these things, he added and spake a parable, because he was near to Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God should immediately appear. He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return. And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come. But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us. And it came to pass, that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded these servants to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading. Then came the first, saying, Lord, your pound has gained ten pounds. And he said unto him, Well, you good servant: because you have been faithful in a very little, have you authority over ten cities. And the second came, saying, Lord, your pound has gained five pounds”, and in chapter nineteen and verse nineteen of his book Luke shared how Jesus said the nobleman told the second servant, “be you also over five cities” where we read:
And he said likewise to him, Be you also over five cities.
The verse reads, “And he said likewise to him, ...” Luke began with the words, “and he said likewise” or “and the nobleman uttered, declared and proclaimed the same charge of being useful, salutary, pleasant, agreeable, joyful and happy man” “to him” which means “to the second servant”. Luke shared how Jesus said the nobleman commended this “second servant” as well.
The verse goes on to say, “... Be you also over five cities.” Luke continued with the word, “be you also” or “exist, you, second servant, even so and indeed” “over five cities” which means “above and in charge of five abodes, towns and metropolises”. Luke shared how Jesus said the nobleman gave the “second servant” authority over “five towns”.
When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we learn how the nobleman commended this second servant in the same manner as he did the first, and he gave his charge over “five cities” because of his “faithfulness”. God loves people, and His desire is to have a personal relationship with them through His Son Jesus, and when they yield their lives to Him, He will provide them with gifts which are to be used in His Kingdom. Let all who read these words carefully consider the “faithfulness” of this second servant who did as best he could with what he was given and was commended by his master for doing so.
Next time Luke shares how Jesus says the third servant says, “Lord, here is your pound”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
